If you're into competition on a budget, mower racing is a great place to start. Those ubiquitous machines that help us keep the yard looking good can be turned into a low cost hobby compared to most other motor sports. With classes for juniors and adults and stockers to fully modified, there's a place for anyone. All you need is a riding lawn mower with a manual shift transmission or transaxel, the willingness to help with track maintenance and a little competitive spirit. There are two chapters in Oregon, Sportsman's Grass Car Racing Inc. located in Wamic and MT. Hood Lawn Mower Racing in Estacada. Both groups are made up of men and women who are willing to answer questions on just about any aspect of the sport. Here's a couple of links to get you started:
