FEBRUARY

PHOTO DISPLAY: Twenty-five images from members of the Gorge Photography Club will be on display at the Mid-Columbia Medical Center’s Celilo Cancer Center, just behind the main MCMC hospital, during the month of February.

Wednesday, February 20

BOOK CLUB: The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library Non-Fiction Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the library. February’s book is “Silent Spring,” by Rachel Carson.

LIBRARY STORYTIME: A 20- to 25-minute baby and toddler storytime intended for children three years old and younger, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library. Adult participation is very helpful.

TANGO LESSONS: Tango dance lessons are offered weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1805 Minnesota Street in the Tayler Hall (entrance on Montana Street.) Lessons are $5 and partners are not required. Instructor is Jay Rabe. Follow on Facebook at “Gorge Tango.”

Thursday, February 21

KIWANIS PROGRAMS:  Kiwanis meetings are held every Thursday at noon at Spooky’s and visitors are welcome. This week’s event include: Kiwanians meet at Wahtonka Charter School at 12:30 for lunch and program. For more information go to www.thedalleskiwanis.org/.     

FOOD NETWORK: Gorge Grown Food Network, OSU and WSU Extension Services will host an opportunity to network, make plans, discuss challenges, and lay the groundwork for getting more local food into schools, restaurants, hospitals and businesses 10 a.m. to noon at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon.

BOOK GROUP: The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library Third Thursday Book Group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. and is reading some of the titles from PBS’s “Great American Read” list. February’s book is “Wuthering Heights,” by Emily Brontë.

Friday, February 22

FRIDAY PINOCHLE: Friday night Pinochle at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W 9th Street, The Dalles. Play begins at 6 p.m. New players and beginners welcome. Enter through the door on the 10th Street side. For more information contact the Center.

TEA CLUB: The first meeting of The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library Tea Club is scheduled for 4 to 5 p.m. Tea will be provided, but anyone interested is encouraged to bring their own favorite tea. LIBRARY STORYTIME: Preschool storytime for children three years or older, 10:30 a.m. at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library.

LIBRARY PLAYGROUP: Family playtime with the Next Door, intended for children five years old or younger with their parent or caregiver, takes place every Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

KIDS’ PROGRAM: A fun program for elementary-age children from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Fridays at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library. The program for Feb. 22 is “Crafternoon”; Feburary’s project is making a pinecone birdfeeder. (Involves working with peanut butter.)

BRISTLEBOTS: Teen program at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library explores robotics, inviting participants to come build a simple “Bristlebot.” 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, February 23

SATURDAY BINGO: Bingo at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, 1112 W 9th Street, The Dalles. Doors open at 4 p.m. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. All ages welcome (children 12 to 18 years old must be accompanied by a legal guardian). New players encouraged to arrive by 5:30 p.m.

HISTORY PROGRAM: “The Town Above Celilo Falls: Launching Site for the Upper River” explores the long-ago town that served as an entry point to the upper Columbia River above Celilo Falls. Wasco County Original Courthouse Regional History Forum, 1:30 p.m., in the upstairs courtroom of the 1859 courthouse at 410 West 2nd Place, The Dalles. Free admission; donations accepted.

LIBRARY STORYTIME: Spanish-language storytime led by local Spanish-speaking volunteers and patrons at The-Dalles Wasco County Library, 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

LIBRARY PROGRAM: A “Girls in Engineering” program at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library features female engineers sharing their careers and leading groups of students through an escape room engineering challenge. Students in grades 5 through 8 of all gender identities encouraged to attend.

Sunday, February 24

TABLETOP GAMING: The game club at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library meets at noon to play tabletop miniature games on the last Sunday of the month. Open to everyone who wants to learn how to play miniature games.

AUTHOR READING: Author Willy Vlautin at Klindt’s Booksellers, 315 East 2nd Street, The Dalles. 2 p.m. Event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, February 26

NETWORKING MEETING: The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce’s Coffee Connections, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., at Cousin’s Country Inn, 2114 W. 6th St., The Dalles. Monthly networking meeting.
