Miyoshi City bench at The Dalles Dam Visitor Center

A metal bench promoting the relationship between Miyoshi City, Japan, and The Dalles has been installed at The Dalles Dam Visitor Center. The bench was built by The Dalles Iron Works and commemorates a 30-year relationship between the two cities. Installation was funded by a grant from the city of The Dalles managed by The Dalles Sister City Association, whose mission is to “build and sustain cross-cultural connections and mutual understanding with our sister cities and the larger global community,” according to their website. On July 7, 14 students and three adults from The Dalles will be leaving to visit Miyoshi City. A “Jubilee for Japan” fundraiser is planned June 15, 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Sunshine Mill Winery. Handmade quilts will also be available. In October, a group from Japan will return the visit.Mark B. Gibson photos
