Community Thanksgiving

Yasmin Meyers of Hood River serves during the Community Thanksgiving at St. Mary’s Academy Thanksgiving Day. The dinner served over 600 meals, an increase from last year, said Captain Raymond Morris of The Salvation Army in The Dalles. He said that included 142 meals delivered to shut-ins who could not attend the meal. Guests and three shifts of volunteers were also fed. “We opened early,” he added. “They were lined up waiting out in the cold, so we invited them in and served hot coffee.” He said the community support was phenomenal. With Franz Bakery donating baked goods, Ray Schultens helping purchase turkeys, Columbia Gorge Toyota providing a crew, and a host of volunteers, the meal was a big success. “Plus we have a really good board, helping us pull it all together,” he said.
