Middle and high school robotics students from across the state will face off in The Dalles for the first tournament of the season Saturday, Nov. 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., hosted by local students at The Dalles Middle School.
Best viewing times will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This is the first time a VEX robotics tournament has been hosted in The Dalles.
“I encourage everyone to come out and support our kids,” said Wasco County 4-H coach Lu Seapy. “They work extremely hard and sacrifice a lot of their own time to learn. Plus we were part of the champion’s alliance last year, so we have to work defend our title.”
TDHS Robotics Coach Ajay Rundell said, “With VEX, students start off competing with multiple teams from across Oregon.”
“We have many tournaments we can enter, but right off the bat we will battle against strong teams from Salem and Sandy.”
Seapy said, “Many other teams we face have a robotics class offered during the school day. Some students earn college pre-engineering credits for their work.”
“Here we have VEX as an after-school program, so the kids who participate in it are extremely motivated. I am always impressed by their work.”
