Hazardous waste collections increase

Quarterly events in The Dalles offering free collection of hazardous waste showed strong attendance last year, with a total of 653 residents participating and 87,646 pounds of hazardous waste collected. The program spent a total of $47,004, or about $0.54 per pound, to collect waste in 2018.

The event was sponsored by the Tri-County Hazardous Waste and Recycling Program, which has been offering the events since 2006. Over the program’s lifetime it has disposed of more than 703,849 pounds of hazardous waste. Quarterly events are also held in Hood River and annual events are offered in many rural communities in the Tri-County service area.
