Campfire rules

State Park campfire restrictions are in place in the Columbia Gorge, middle and southern portions of the Willamette Valley, on southern Oregon coastal beaches, and a few locations east of the Cascades.

In the gorge, restrictions are in place at Ainsworth, Viento, Memaloose, Deschutes River State Recreation Area and all day-use parks. No campfires or charcoal briquettes. Gas stoves permitted.

No campfires are allowed in Cottonwood Canyon on the John Day River. Charcoal briquettes and gas stoves OK in campground, gas stoves only outside of campground.

Even where fires are allowed, they need to only be built in fire rings and attended.

Keep fires small and make sure a bucket of water and shovel are nearby. Thoroughly douse when finished.

Smoking is not permitted in state parks except in personal vehicles and designated campsites.

Check for updates on restrictions.
