Looking to earn their first Baker City bid since 2004, the Dufur Rangers fell behind by a lopsided 16-3 score through one quarter and trailed 51-30 after three periods in what was a season-ending 66-49 loss to Prairie City (25-2) in tonight’s state second round boys hoops contest Friday in Prairie City.
MORO – Since losing on a buzzer-beating jumper on Dec. 27 at Prairie City, the No. 5-ranked Sherman Huskies have bounced back with two straight lopsided victories over the weekend versus South Wasco County and Dufur in Big Sky Conference boys hoops action.
The Dufur boys’ track and field team was in 22nd place through one day with four points, as Tanner Masterson, Cole Kortge and Friedrick Stelzer were the main contributors. Masterson posted a mark of 11.61 seconds for fifth place in the boys’ 100-meter prelims and tacked on a personal-record 23.16 to end up second in the 200-meter prelims for a finals berth in both events.
Friedrick Stelzer racked up two wins, Cole Kortge was first in the 110-meter hurdles and Tanner Masterson placed second in the 100 and 200 to give the Dufur boys’ track and field group 82.5 points and third place after Saturday’s 1A meet in Arlington. Stelzer crossed the finish line in two minutes and 14.34 seconds for top honors in the 800 meters and picked up a personal-record time of 4:31.91 to get a 1,500-meter triumph.
