Over the last few years, Hood River Valley has been a thorn on the side of The Dalles girls tennis team. Tuesday was another story. In four doubles matches, TD cruised to a lopsided sweep and finished its 7-1 romp by scoring three of four singles wins in a varsity contest played at The Dalles High School.
In their 8-0 loss to Columbia River Conference champion Hood River Valley, The Dalles had four matches that could have gone either way, but were counted as close losses in Wednesday’s league finale at The Dalles High School. Andy Lopez lost his No. 2 singles match against Sawyer Bogard by scores of 3-6, 5-7; and at No. 4 singles, Salvador Garcia had a chance to gain an early edge in the first set, eventually losing in a tiebreaker 6-7 (4); and Hood River’s Jacob Kaplan completed the two-set sweep by a 6-2 margin in the second set.
Although The Dalles baseball team is dealing with three straight losses to Hood River Valley, the third a 19-3 setback at home Tuesday, they can control their own postseason destiny with victories over Pendleton and Hermiston in the next two contests. “We got to get these next two if we want to get in the playoffs, there’s no question about it,” TD head coach Steve Sugg said.
