MORO – Saturday marked a historic moment for the Dufur boys and girls track teams. Both groups captured Big Sky Conference championships in the same season, a first for the girls since 1999, while the boys last accomplished their title feat in 2007.


Up against 19 6A programs out of the 34 in attendance, The Dalles track and field team posted 13 personal records and six season-best marks at the 55th annual Centennial Invitational Meet held Saturday in Portland.


Cole Kortge, Abraham Kilby, Tanner Masterson and Asa Farrell re-wrote Dufur track and field history Friday in Hermiston. At the Kiwanis Twilight Meet, the Ranger quartet shattered a 26-year-old 4x100-meter relay record with a time of 44.58 seconds for third place, beating the previous mark set in 1993 by Gabe Bales, Brandon Jones, Bryan Jones and Jake Zachariasen (44.7.)

Competing against 14 other schools from Washington and Oregon, The Dalles track and field squad tallied a combined 30 personal records and the girls totaled 51.5 points for fourth place at the Kiwanis Twilight Invitational Friday in Hermiston.

In a six-team meet in Hood River, The Dalles boys and girls track and field combined for 64 personal records Wednesday at Henderson Stadium. (Also covers Dufur.)

In their third meet of the year, the South Wasco County girls reeled off a win, two seconds and three thirds to net a third-place team total of 69.5 points at Saturday’s Jeff Agar Memorial Track and Field Invite in Trout Lake, Wash.

Daisy Brown, Mercedez Cardona, Owen Christiansen and Luke Martin all scored wins, and the Sherman boys track and field team totaled 82 points …

Facing several big schools and tough competition from Oregon and Washington, The Dalles track and field team set 19 personal records and 12 season-bests at Saturday’s Willamette Falls Invitational in Oregon City. (Also covers Dufur.)

2018 state qualifiers back in action and a handful of others had personal records and season records at Tuesday’s five-team track and field meet held at Sid White Field.
