The South Wasco County Redsides hit the road to take on Stanfield and came up a few bounces short of scoring a five-game upset in a non-league match played Friday in Echo.
Stanfield won the first set 25-13, but the Redsides battled back for two consecutive wins by margins of 25-16 and 25-23.
With a chance to win four games, SWC could not get over the hump, as it lost 24-26 in the fourth game to force a fifth-game tiebreak.
In the finale, Echo secured victory with a 15-11 output.
The Redsides served at an 82 percent clip, and senior Baily Hogenkamp led with a 25-for-26 split for 96 percent.
Hogenkamp had 11 kills, Ally Muhleman had 9 kills, Allie Noland was good for five kills and Ana Popchock finished her night with four kills.
In their nightcap match Friday, the Lady Redsides were swept by Echo in three games.
The Cougars won by final marks of 25-18. 25-21 and 25-16.
SWC (0-2 overall) heads to Lyle tonight for a match at 5 p.m.
Dufur sweeps past Lowell
The Dufur Rangers converted 98.6 percent of their serves with 22 aces in a three-game home sweep Thursday at Dufur High School.
The Rangers (2-2 overall) won all three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-12.
Chloe Beeson had four digs, four kills and six aces, and Karaline Johnson chipped in four kills, and junior setter Sydney Reed added five aces.
Dufur is in Heppner for a non-league match at 4 p.m. tonight.
