“Her wings were ready … but our hearts were not”

Kristina Mary Beresh, 63 of Vancouver, Wash. died on July 20, 2019 at OHSU in Portland after a long 4-month battle (hospitalization) with acute pancreatitis.

Kristina is survived by her husband Ray of 38 years, daughter Tara in New Mexico, son Rafael, (Kyna & 4 grandchildren, Miles, Hannah, Sam and Adelaide) in California, mother, Inez Kennen of The Dalles, brother, Tom (and Barbara) Kennen, sister, Karen (and Steve) Munsen of The Dalles along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in Coos Bay and Veneta, Ore., Pennsylvania, Portland, Ore.  and The Dalles, Ore. along with relatives in Bollnas, Sweden.

Kristina was the youngest of four children born to Thomas C. Kennen and Inez E. (Westlund) of The Dalles. She lived on Mill Creek with her family and attended Colonel Wright Elementary, the Junior High and graduated from The Dalles High class of 1974.

In 1979 Kristina joined the United States Air Force. She served as     Aircraft Maintenance Specialist and was a Crew Chief on the KC-135      aircraft until 1983. Kristina was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

She met her future   husband while serving in U.S. Air Force in Maine. They married in Maine and later made the trek back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest to find a home and start their family. They settled in Vancouver, Wash., where they raised their family. Kris loved her family and being a mother.  As the children grew older Kris decided to start classes at Clark College and went on to attain her Associates Degree.

After college she began her 25-year career with the Vancouver School District working with at risk youth and later as an assistant to the school    librarian. During her many years working in the schools Kris was awarded many awards for her exemplary service in the school district and the community. She retired in late 2018 due to ongoing health concerns and wanting to spend time with family and traveling.

Kris especially loved the outdoors, gardening, reading and animals of every kind. She had a love for Christ and attended New Heights Church in Vancouver, Wash.

Kristina traveled through many states but dearly loved her travels to Alaska with her husband. She also enjoyed visiting her soon to be Archaeologist daughter in Utah and New Mexico and her Marine son in California. She was always so proud of her adult children and their individual accomplishments.

Kris was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis after receiving a routine medical hospital outpatient procedure in early April 2019. She suffered through many various procedures and surgeries over the following 4 months. She was a trouper throughout it all and went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 20, 2019.

Preceding her in death includes her father, Thomas C. Kennen of The Dalles and a older brother, Michael E. Kennen of Anderson, Calif.

A “Celebration of Life” for Kristina was held in Vancouver Wash., on    Saturday, July 27, 2019 and was attended by many family, friends and co-workers.

Kristina Mary (Kennen) Beresh was laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery,  Portland, Ore., on Monday, July 29, 2019 with full Military Honors.

Memorial gifts can be made to the Animal Shelter of your choice in honor of Kris because of her love for ”All God’s creatures.”
